Conferences

Today I attended my 3rd conference this year. Every time there is a conference, I bug my HOD to send me. Then as the date approaches, I regret signing up because conferences are, without fail, several days long and from 8am to 5pm or thereabouts. But I’ll attend it and then be quite pleased because… Continue reading »

Phew!

As part of a coaching/facilitating course that I have been taking, I have had to pretend-coach a session this week which has been very stressful! I’ve just sent in the summary of my coaching efforts to my coach and I’m feeling both relieved that’s it over and nervous because I’m going to get feedback soon.… Continue reading »

And sometimes it’s worth it

I found this really interesting, because I’m about to step into teaching, and even after practicum, you get a glimpse that teaching life isn’t all that it’s purported to be. I mean, even when we were just in schools for the school experience, you already got the feeling that all the advertisements on the buses… Continue reading »

Sometimes it’s just not worth it

Students and social media – a horrible mix. There’s been some conflict between a teacher and a class in school recently. Having heard the teacher’s side of the story, I’m more inclined to believe her because (a) I know the class and it does not surprise me that they act that way and (b) I… Continue reading »

Teachers’ Day

I am representing my school at the Teachers’ Day reception at the Istana this year and I’m quite excited since I’ve never been to the Istana before. My squee is a little tempered by the fact that photography is not allowed inside! :sad face: Still, I am hoping the food is good at the very… Continue reading »

I’m not dead yet

I’ve just been really busy and I guess I haven’t had much desire to blog about anything – not even the things I love. Even the stupidity in the ST Forum (and believe me there is plenty) cannot inspire me. I’m just tired. I don’t want to teach graduating classes again. :(

Sexism in the Workplace

I was sorting through some past year O-level oral passages when I noticed one about a Chemistry practical lesson in college. The storyline was basically about two girls who join the lesson. In the passage, it was emphasised twice that the girls were pretty and the key idea in the story was that these two… Continue reading »

A Good Day

It’s been a while since I’ve had a genuinely good day in school. Often it is marred by various unhappy incidences or simply by lessons that do not go as well as I hoped. But today, life was good in school. Lessons overall went generally well, my most difficult class was behaving well (relatively) and… Continue reading »

Canteen Food

I always tell people what one of the benefits of working in a school is that I spend very little on lunch. Firstly, I often skip it because I have no time and secondly, canteen food is relatively cheap. It gets boring of course, since most stalls sell the same food every single day but… Continue reading »

Why do you care what I do in my private life?

Taken from Pharyngula about how teachers often find their freedom restricted (in response to a teacher who got fired for having certain views): And please note, I’m not talking about what you do in the classroom — there are reasonable restrictions on what you can do there, and there is also a specific set of… Continue reading »
