Yesterday Tomorrow

5 years ago, everyone talked about the Internet and how it would change politics in Singapore. Pictures of massive turn outs at opposition rallies were plastered all around the net. Bloggers spoke out on issues and views went uncensored. New voices were heard on the Internet. People championed the opposition.

The PAP won 66.6% of the votes.

Today, everyone talks about social media and how it is going to change politics in Singapore. Bloggers write about issues, Facebook and Twitter are used as well as platforms to spread ideas, opinions, views. Of course, some old bloggers have gone while new bloggers have come. People champion the opposition.

I think nothing is going to change at the end of the day.

  1. i learnt today that there is a “nicole Seah and the social media effect”

Imagine a day when she has more fans than LKY. But then even “nigahiga” has more subscribers than LKY. Haha!
