Linkity Link

Just one link today but it’s incredibly hilarious. I can’t believe I didn’t find it sooner. Thanks to silly fandom sites on livejournal.

Hyperbole and a Half.

Just in case you were interested, I’m typing this with my cat’s butt in my face. :(

Conflict and Resolutions

This is going to sound really vague. Don’t ask. I probably don’t want to talk about it IRL.

I hate conflict, which is why I usually go out of my way to avoid it. Sometimes I play mediator, other times I simply refuse to get involved. When put in the middle, I often try to be as non-committal as possible. If I do take sides, then I probably feel that this is an issue I care about.

Now, in a certain social circle of mine, there has been a great deal of conflict recently. Although I am in no way directly involved, I find myself being in a position where I might be forced to choose a side. This is quite upsetting as I have friends on both sides – although admittedly, I’m not very close to these friends from either side. At the moment, I feel like removing myself from the group altogether despite all the positive experiences I have had with them.

I guess I just wanted to get this off my chest.

Because I hate ending my posts with me being angsty and all, here’s something that is making me happy.

HERSHEY’S CHOCOLATE WORLD

I can’t wait.

I’m not dead yet

I’ve just been really busy and I guess I haven’t had much desire to blog about anything – not even the things I love. Even the stupidity in the ST Forum (and believe me there is plenty) cannot inspire me.

I’m just tired.

I don’t want to teach graduating classes again. :(

*Hyperventilate*

Yeah, I know I said I would keep my fangirling off my blog but it’s Comic-Con! And from all accounts, it was pretty awesome. I need to figure out a way to go there and keep my job. I mean, life is about experiences and this is really something I want to experience! This year, there was Merlin, Smallville & The Big Bang Theory. I would have loved to be at the panels. And the comics!

That said, I’m very thrilled because I managed to see the s3 Merlin trailer. It was EPIC. Ok, it probably wasn’t that epic but it certainly got me excited. I cannot wait for it to start again. Oh, and Smallville should be starting up as well and that should be fun as well, especially since it would be their last season.

Sexism in the Workplace

I was sorting through some past year O-level oral passages when I noticed one about a Chemistry practical lesson in college. The storyline was basically about two girls who join the lesson. In the passage, it was emphasised twice that the girls were pretty and the key idea in the story was that these two pretty girls joined the lesson. The class, who seemed to be made up of boys only, liked that they were pretty but were sceptical about their abilities in the lab. Naturally, the boys were correct and the two girls were depicted as completely clueless about the dangers present in the Chemistry lab. In fact, they wanted to randomly mix chemicals and had to be educated by the (male) teacher that that was not a good idea. After that, the girls went off for lunch all giggly and happy.

In a lesson I was observing, a female teacher made a comment about how she wanted the class to keep quiet  and focus on her. In a bid (I assume) to be amusing, she said that she was selfish and liked people to pay attention to her like all women.

Both these incidences sadden me because it demonstrates the overwhelming presence of casual sexism in our society.

Superman died for our sins

I’ve tended to avoid writing about religion because of how sensitive it can be in Singapore and the fact that I know a number of people who occasionally read my blog are religious.

Still, the idea that the Westboro Baptist Church has decided to go picket at Comic-con (why am I not there?) was vaguely amusing. It became even more amusing when I saw the response of the Comic-con attendees this morning. It’s things like this that makes me quite fond of fan culture.

Here’s a pic I snagged off Comic Alliance. Click on the link above to see the rest of the hilarity.

On a similar note, I want to go to Comic-con! It looks fun and this year, Merlin is there as well! One more reason to not be a teacher …

No more comics

Because OMIT was dumb (what? Spiderman missing his marriage because he was knocked out? How does that even make sense?) and I hate depressed, walking Superman.

I shall instead concentrate on finishing my FMA mangas. At least I know that is going to be good.

A Good Day

It’s been a while since I’ve had a genuinely good day in school. Often it is marred by various unhappy incidences or simply by lessons that do not go as well as I hoped. But today, life was good in school.

Lessons overall went generally well, my most difficult class was behaving well (relatively) and my cme lesson was well received. Even my CCA was fun today.

So it’s a great day and I think it’s going to be a pretty good night as well.

Old Spice needs a tag of its own now

I have to say, with everything they have done, including real time twitter responses, the Old Spice ad campaign is the most memorable and fun one I have seen in a while (maybe ever). I love the fact that it is more than just one or two ad clips and that there is actual interaction with their audience.

Heck, I’m even tempted to go out and buy Old Spice just so they can make more commercials!

Brain Dead

In lieu of a properly thought out and written blog post, have some awesome Old Spice commercials.

Has there been a more awesome advertising campaign? With a more awesome spokesperson?

Also, check out his twitter replies at the Old Spice YouTube channel. Maybe I should ask a question! [thanks for the heads up Nocturne]
