I actually have a draft of my thoughts about the UN guy’s opinion of race / religion in Singapore, which obviously I found very interesting. As expected, the government has already made the requisite rebuttals and this has been followed up with two letters to the ST Forum supporting the idea that the UN guy… Continue reading »

Because foreign workers aren’t really human
Seriously. That’s why we can treat them like dirt. You see right, when I saw the “We overreacted” headline in TODAYonline, I thought that the residents of Serangoon, having been living with the foreign workers in their neighbourhood for some time, have come to see that they are no more dangerous/dirty/immoral/smelly/unhygienic than non-foreign workers. Religion in the Public Sphere
I’m always quite wary when there are hints of religion being brought into the public sphere in Singapore. Certainly, I do not wish Singapore to become like the USA where people think it’s fine to impose their religious values onto others. Friends with mixed parentage have also voiced their concern to me… Continue reading »

Singapore and Race
Race matters in Singapore and don’t believe anyone who tells you otherwise. Yes, we are fortunate that there is hardly any overt displays of racism in Singapore but that doesn’t mean there isn’t racism in Singapore. Which is why, despite my initial positive feelings about the new decision to allow a child’s official race to… Continue reading »

Six Lives
So, someone asked me about what I thought of the SGEM’s online drama, Six Lives. Since I’ve read all the 3 episodes up so far, I figured I would note down my thoughts on it. It appears to be an interesting concept. I was somewhat intrigued by the first two episodes but I felt the… Continue reading »

Why I Hate Teaching Part Deux
In the previous incarnation of my blog, I wrote a list of what makes me “hate” teaching. The quotation marks are there because, seeing that I have been here for 6 years, I guess I don’t really “hate” it all that much.

Pay Cut
So I’ve got the official email that pay is likely to be cut this year. Can’t say I didn’t see it coming.
