Apparently I’m on Hiatus

End of year work is keeping me busy!

I’ve been in an incredibly good mood these few weeks. It’s a mixture of happiness that the holidays are approaching, of the idea that I may be promoted, of an upcoming trip with the boyfriend and of the awesomeness that Smallville and Merlin have been in recent weeks.

Actually I wanted to write about the SGEM and the current news about various education issues but I’m tired and I don’t feel particularly inspired to write either.

So yeah, perhaps the hiatus might continue for a little while more.

Crossroads

Maybe this is what people mean when they say mid-life crisis (although I maintain that 30 is too young for one).

It is true that I have generally been coasting along in life, allowing myself to be taken wherever life takes me – and frankly, it hasn’t been bad. I have a job I generally enjoy, I live a fairly comfortable life and am quite happy with how things are going.

And then, suddenly, I have to grow up.

*Hyperventilate*

Yeah, I know I said I would keep my fangirling off my blog but it’s Comic-Con! And from all accounts, it was pretty awesome. I need to figure out a way to go there and keep my job. I mean, life is about experiences and this is really something I want to experience! This year, there was Merlin, Smallville & The Big Bang Theory. I would have loved to be at the panels. And the comics!

That said, I’m very thrilled because I managed to see the s3 Merlin trailer. It was EPIC. Ok, it probably wasn’t that epic but it certainly got me excited. I cannot wait for it to start again. Oh, and Smallville should be starting up as well and that should be fun as well, especially since it would be their last season.

Merlin in Singapore

It’s coming to Channel 5! :D

Except for some reason, it’s called The Adventures of Merlin. Anyway, this is just an excuse for me to put up more pretty pictures on my blog.

Merlin and Arthur on a break

And Gwen because she is just so pretty (sorry Morgana)

Oh and in case you were interested in my TV viewing habits, I’ve stopped watching Smallville again (because I’m getting really annoyed at how they treat Superman). Let’s see how long this hiatus lasts.

All pictures from the wonderful Merlin’s Keep.

Because I can’t go too long without talking about Merlin

Yeah, long title is long.

Anyway, I found a cute little article on Merlin online – a crash course in Merlin (since it’s going to be airing in the US). Here are my favourite quotes.

Merlin is seriously Camelot’s only line of defense.

Haha! Indeed. So many of the red-caped knights die every episode before Merlin activates his powers. It’s a wonder Arthur will have enough knights to form the round table in the future.

John Hurt’s voice is legend.

Ah yes, it’s a little strange to hear his legendary voice come out of a plastic-y dragon.

If ears or Adam’s apples are your thing, you’re going to fall in love with Merlin or Arthur. You literally will not be able to help yourself.

I think that speaks for itself.

So I was chatting with JK on my way home about TV shows and I confessed that I only like episodic shows because I have a horrible time remembering things from many episodes ago – a fact that was emphasised when I was watching FMA:B on TV. Now that the big battle is about to begin, all these minor characters start popping back up and even though I saw the episodes they were in before, I completely forgot who they were. Poor JK had to keep answering my questions. This is why I gave up on the X-Files when instead of Monster of the Week, they became all about cigarette smoking and conspiracy theories and stuff. This is also why big arcs on Smallville annoy me (Smallville has started annoying me again but that is a blog post for another day).

What I’m saying is that Merlin is so appealing because it’s a simple show and I don’t have to remember little details that may pop up 10 – 20 episodes in the future. Plus, it’s so silly and nonsensical that no one should think too much when watching it because beer cans in Camelot – really? Ridiculousness thrills me nine ways to Sunday.

Random Musings

So Zod can fly but Clark cannot. The last two episodes left me feeling kind of meh. Even Lois couldn’t excite me. And S9 started out so well too but oh well, one should never expect much from Smallville.  Chloe is still getting on my nerves. Tess is interesting but such an enigma and Oliver, well, he looks good shirtless. Someone said that he was better off reading Blackest Night. Probably. I’m awaiting the trades but I have high hopes. So far, I’m only minorly spoiled.

I’m suddenly feeling somewhat down. Not sure why exactly. Hopefully the Arsenal game coming up will cheer me up. Although, I have to admit, I doubt it will. Perhaps I should go beat up some people in Tekken.

FFVIII should be out in a couple of weeks or so. Quite excited but seeing how I cannot even find the time to finish up Dragon Age, I don’t see how I’m going to finish it. But I will. Definitely.

Work has been more of a drag than usual. I still enjoy quite a bit of it but I’m getting restless plus certain things are making me reconsider my career choice. On one hand, I like teaching in a classroom and being involved in school events. On the other, it takes a lot out of me. Also, this year I have a difficult class and it’s really making my days in school horrible. I’m not even sure why, seeing they aren’t actually the first difficult class I have ever had. It’s just that usually the class and I develop some sort of rapport which makes going in and dealing with their nonsense bearable. This year, the class and I simply do not get along. I guess we lack chemistry or something. I know for one thing that they purposely make life difficult for me and it’s been frustrating.

Of happiness, Merlin and other such stuff

I’m a happy, happy girl this weekend so commence the gushing!

Arsenal

Oh Arsenal! JK says I should be glad I’m an Arsenal fan. And I am. Yeah I know I grumble a lot about them and I start watching each match convinced that they are going to screw it up and lose, but I do love them lots! One day I will watch them play at the Emirates too. And they will win – not like the time I watched them lose 3-1 to Newcastle at Highbury.

So to start off the lovely, lovely weekend with an Arsenal win over Spurs was brilliant. Plus all the goals were vaguely amusing, assuming you aren’t a Spurs fan, made everything that much better. Oh I know Arsenal looked really dodgy at the back but well, they won! I shall bask in this win until the next BPL match (Wolves I think).

Smallville

Well, Smallville was a delightful surprise as well. I don’t usually like the Oliver-based storylines but this week’s one was ok. Not quite as annoying as the one last week. Heck, even Chloe was so much more likeable. And how can I forget the ending! It wasn’t perfect but it was good. I must admit I am intrigued by what they are planning with the Kandorians.

Merlin

Merlin was brilliant. It was everything I could ever want from a Merlin episode. It was ridiculously silly with huge plot holes. It had Arthur being noble and kind. It had the Dragon in his best appearance ever. It had sweet Arthur and Gwen moments. It had Merlin being silly again and the best Arthur and Merlin interaction. I could go on forever. Oh and troll sex! Nothing is more hilarious that seeing Uther jumping out of dark corners trying to seduce his troll-wife! You win Merlin. You’re the best thing on TV today.

Family & JK

Lastly, my parents dropped by en route to Dubai so that was great. Plus I got to spend time with JK which always makes me smile.

Now off to do my work review write-up! Even that can’t get me down. :D

Back to our Regularly Scheduled Programming

in which I wax lyrical over the various things I am a fan of.

Superman: Secret Origin

Cute but with really scary-looking young CK. Also, am horrified at the cost! Since I’ve dropped my Superman titles (since I have no intention of buying comics in which he is not present), I’ve been mainly picking up Batman / Superman and Deadpool, both of which are not affected by the price hike.

Smallville

I could get used to this season of Smallville. The trick is not to expect too much. Plus this week’s episode had zombies! Ever since I watched Dawn of the Dead (the 2004 version), I’ve been most fascinated by zombies. Superman vs Zombies? Cool.

Will update about Merlin once I get the chance to watch the episode.

Merlin

I don’t like angst much and I like confidence that all will be happy in the end. This week’s episode? Too angsty for me especially since I watch Merlin for all its silliness. Still, the comedy parts were brilliant so I’ll overlook all the horrible love-triangle crap (I hate love triangles! I abandon shows because they have stupid love triangles – unless they are triangles involving characters I don’t care about.).

It’s a rare week that Smallville makes me happier than Merlin.

Retro Party and other Random Stuff

It seems that my school’s grad night this year is going to have a theme – retro. I can’t decide if I should be sporting and dress the part or just ignore it, as I know some teachers might. I don’t think I have anything retro in my cupboards. Sigh.

Just finished watching the Arsenal match. I wonder if it was a special match or something. At any rate, it was nice to see Henry at the game. It was an interesting game though with 8 goals altogether. The commentator seemed to be watching a different match though. I think I must make the effort to catch all Arsenal matches this season. I doubt I’d be getting mioTV and I might not get the chance to see Arsenal in action after this. If mioTV gets the rights for the World Cup, I will be most annoyed.

I also watched Merlin and Smallville today. Both were pretty entertaining. I like the new season of Smallville generally although there are aspects that still annoy me. Still, this week’s episode was pretty cool. I know people were happy that Superman (I cannot call him the Blur) defeated Metallo with his brains but I wish there was more fighting. Merlin also needs more sword fights or jousting. Those are always fun to watch. None of that in this week’s episodes and that Mordred kid is really creepy. Just the same, Merlin is always silly enough, full of silly plot holes and completely cheesy enough to make me smile.

I still haven’t managed to get JK to help me sort out my comics though. They’re everywhere and I don’t know what to do with them! Was also quite tempted to pick up Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 but it costs a whopping $78! Must think about it a bit more. Why do I have such expensive hobbies? At least next season I won’t have to fork out $20+ per month for the Football Channel.

Oh and I read the latest Six Lives episode. It was even more boring than the previous one. Want something to read online? You can do better than Six Lives. My favourite website,  TV Tropes, is brilliant. It will probably suck your life away though.

A Good Weekend

It’s been a good weekend so far!

I watched both Merlin and Smallville and both didn’t disappoint. It helps that I don’t have very high expectations. Merlin was fun and silly as usual and it had tons of Prince Arthur and Gwen so it made me happy. Also, no more depressed Merlin. I enjoy happy Merlin so much more. Smallville was more of a mixed bag but overall, I liked it. It had Lois and I have to say, Metallo looked promising. Chloe managed to not annoy me too. Not too keen on the calling card left by the Blur (sigh) after every rescue though.

Plus Arsenal won and I thought the goalkeeper was fantastic. The rest of the team, not so much especially Arshavin (who was crap really) and Diaby. And they’re playing Blackburn next which means I get great company to watch the next match.

Plus I finished TWO stacks of marking, which is pretty good in my books. So yay me as well.

Now if only school didn’t have to start on Monday.
