Description
This book introduces you to how you would go about flying the default Airbus A330-300, which is supplied as one of the aircraft included in X-Plane 12.
Laminar Research’s A330 is an excellent, very high-quality airliner – the most complex of all the default X-Plane 12 aircraft. The included operating manual and MCDU manual are wonderful documents packed with reference material, but if you are a beginner wondering where to start, you get quickly lost.
How do you use it? How do you even start?
That’s where this book comes in. It doesn’t replace the manual and it doesn’t teach you how to become an Airbus pilot, but it does give you a start – an introduction – and idea of which buttons to press to get into the air and down again.
This book will show an inexperienced potential airliner sim pilot how to get his/her feet wet and get enough of a taste of Airbus flying to encourage them to knuckle down and do some serious study.
The two tutorials that make up this e-book are simplified enough to make a real ATP CFI cringe, but again, my defense is that this book aims to introduce you to the concept of airline flying. Simply out of consideration for the complexity involved, I have had to simplify many procedures – often debating whether to include more detail on this or that. This book introduces how you would fly the default Airbus A330-300 if you had never flown an Airbus before.
The e-book consists of two parts. The first part is a simple flight to let you get the feel of what it’s like to fly this big bird. The simple flight gives you a feeling for what is involved and a sense of satisfaction that it’s not quite as difficult as it may appear. This first flight is dangerously simplified, without using ATC, but still complex enough to give you a feel for what it’s like to fly an airliner. The emphasis will be on programming the MCDU [Multi-Function Control And Display Unit].
In the book’s second part, we’ll dive in more deeply and execute a complete flight from one airport to another, starting from a cold and dark situation and ending with a controlled descent and a CAT III ILS landing.
Essentially, the book has two purposes:
– to give you a taste of what it’s all about,
– and to give you a firm enough grounding that further study is no longer so daunting.
This e-book will not teach you how to become an ATP [Air Transport Pilot], but it will (hopefully):
• De-mystify some of the incredible complexity of these magnificent machines
• Introduce you to that frightening thing called a MCDU/FMC [ Multi-Function Control and Display Unit / Flight Management Computer] and help you tame it.
• At the same time it will provide you with step-by-step instructions to at least get you into the air (You might crash on landing the first time, though!)
• And have lots of fun doing it!
Also included are various X-Plane-specific tips, explanations and practical “How-tos”.
