I have written this handbook to assist you in setting up X-Plane 12 correctly and optimally. This is Version 1.1 of the handbook and is available for free to all those who purchased Version 1.0. Simply redownload it from your store account.
This book is intended to supplement the official X-Plane 12 manual. Instead, it should be used in conjunction with it as a step-by-step guide to setting up X-Plane on a Windows PC. The handbook supplements the official Laminar Research manual, and although primarily for Windows users, most of the book also applies to MAC and LINUX versions. The main focus of this guide is to ensure that X-Plane 12 is set up correctly right from the start. The tips in this book are geared towards readers with a Windows 11 operating system, although most are equally valid for Windows 10 users. While all the X-Plane 12 information applies to Apple Mac users, the hardware and O/S setup are obviously not applicable to Mac users. Nevertheless, the X-Plane contents of the book certainly apply to Mac-based machines as well. Additionally, the book includes many clarifications, tips, and answers to questions and problems that customers have approached me with over the past few years of offering X-Plane 11 assistance.

Flying Low – The X-Plane 12 Handbook is the first book in a series of three. This book provides a comprehensive guide to installing and using the X-Plane 12 software package. The second book covers scenery, and the third book deals with Add-ons and Plugins.
The X-Plane 12 Handbook – Book 1 begins by helping you identify your intentions and needs for your simulator. It then moves on to hardware considerations such as your computer and peripherals. Whether you are setting up X-Plane 12 from scratch with new hardware (a buyer’s guide is included) or using your existing hardware, step-by-step instructions are provided to help you set up the Windows 11 operating system to run X-Plane 12 optimally.
Once your computer is set up, the book covers peripheral calibration and setting up the X-Plane 12 simulator itself. The following section focuses on optimizing X-Plane 12 in detail, with a large collection of short “How To” articles explaining various features of the software. While the X-Plane 12 manual covers most of these topics, this book takes a different approach to help you better understand them.
Finally, the book ends with an extensive illustrated glossary of aviation terms you will likely encounter when using X-Plane 12.
