This tip is undoubtedly well known to X-Plane users who upgraded their computer hardware fifteen years ago, but perhaps it is not so well known today.
While USB-3 ports are supposed to be totally backwards compatible, in practice, this is not always so.
If you have an older USB joystick, set of pedals, or other peripheral device that was originally built to use a USB 2 port, avoid plugging it into a USB-3 (blue or red) port unless you have no option. Instead, for best reliability, plug it into a USB-2 (black) port if there is one at the rear of the motherboard.
This tip is particularly important if you use several USB-2 devices (like the older Saitek Radio and instrument panels) connected to a USB hub. Make sure that the hub is designed for USB-2 devices and plugs into a USB-2 port.
